Boxing Classes for Women in Singapore: What Nobody Tells You Before You Walk In
If you've been thinking about trying boxing but haven't pulled the trigger yet, I want to tell you something: you're not alone, and the hesitation you're feeling is completely normal.
I've coached hundreds of women at Sweat Science Studio. The ones who walk in for the first time almost always say the same thing afterwards: 'I wish I'd started sooner.'
This post is for you if you've been curious about boxing classes in Singapore but aren't sure what to expect, whether it's right for you, or whether you'll fit in.
Why More Women in Singapore Are Choosing Boxing
Boxing has changed. The sport that used to exist only in dingy fight gyms with a very specific type of person now looks completely different — especially here in the CBD.
At Sweat Science Studio, over half of our members are women. They're professionals, mums, students, and everyone in between. They come for different reasons:
• Full-body workout that doesn't feel like exercise
• Stress relief that actually works — there's something uniquely satisfying about hitting a bag after a long day at work
• Real technique, not just a cardio class with gloves on
• A community that's warm, non-judgmental, and genuinely supportive
Boxing burns 500–700 calories per session, builds functional upper body and core strength, and sharpens your coordination and focus in ways that most gym workouts simply don't.
The Honest Truth About 'Female Boxing Classes' in Singapore
Here's what you should know before you start comparing options.
A lot of 'boxing fitness' classes marketed at women are essentially high-intensity cardio with boxing movements layered on top. The technique is secondary. You're hitting the air or a bag, but nobody's really watching your form.
That's fine if you just want a sweat. But if you want to actually learn how to box — how to move, how to generate power from your hips and legs, how to defend — then technique instruction matters.
At Sweat Science, every session is led by Coach Hafiz, a three-time Singapore National Boxing Champion with over a decade of competitive and coaching experience. You won't find a more qualified coach running group boxing classes in the CBD.
'I was genuinely scared walking in. Within 20 minutes I forgot I was nervous. By the end of class I was already planning to come back.' — A first-timer at Sweat Science Studio
What Actually Happens in a Women's Boxing Class at Sweat Science
There's no fixed 'women's only' class at Sweat Science — because frankly, the mixed environment is part of what makes it work. Everyone trains together, everyone starts from the same place, and nobody is judged for being a beginner.
Here's what a typical session looks like:
Warm-up (10 min): Jump rope and dynamic movement. This is where you start to understand your rhythm and get comfortable in the space.
Technique drills (15 min): Coach Hafiz breaks down the focus skill for the session — jab mechanics, footwork patterns, defensive movement. You're learning, not just sweating.
Pad and bag work (25 min): You apply what you just learned. Combinations, timing, power. This is the part most people find addictive.
Conditioning (10 min): Core, functional strength, and cool-down. You'll feel this the next morning — in a good way.
You don't need to bring anything except comfortable gym clothes and a water bottle. Gloves are available to borrow.
5 Things Women Tell Us They Were Worried About (And the Reality)
1. 'I'll get hurt'
There is no contact sparring in standard classes. You're hitting bags and pads. Injuries in boxing fitness are almost always from poor technique — which is exactly why technique is the focus here.
2. 'I'm not fit enough'
Boxing will get you fit. You don't arrive fit. The conditioning happens as you train. All levels are genuinely welcome — we've had members in their 50s starting from zero.
3. 'It's a male-dominated environment'
Look at the class photos on our Instagram. Over half the room is women. The atmosphere is inclusive by design.
4. 'I'll look stupid as a beginner'
Everyone was a beginner once. Coach Hafiz coaches beginners every single week and there is zero impatience in how he teaches.
5. 'It's too aggressive for me'
Boxing is a discipline. The aggression you see in professional fights is completely absent from what we do here. Most members describe the experience as calming — focused, present, and mentally clear after class.
