The Boxing Gym in Clarke Quay That's Built for People Who Work in the CBD

If you work in the CBD and you've been looking for a way to actually decompress after work — not just go through the motions at a gym — this might be worth your attention.

Sweat Science Studio sits on Level 4 of 42C North Canal Road in Clarke Quay. Three minutes on foot from Clarke Quay MRT. We've been here since 2023, and what we've built is a boxing gym that works specifically for the kind of lifestyle that comes with working in the city.

What Makes a Boxing Gym Different From a Regular Gym

The honest answer is focus. When you walk into a boxing session, there's one thing you're doing. You're learning footwork, or working combinations, or drilling defence. Your phone is in your bag. Your work email is irrelevant. For 60 minutes, your brain has a single task.

Most gym sessions don't give you this. You do 20 minutes on the treadmill thinking about tomorrow's meeting. You do some weights half-distracted. You leave not quite refreshed.

Boxing forces presence. It's one of the things members tell us they notice most — they leave feeling genuinely clear-headed, not just tired.

Why Location Matters More Than You Think

A boxing gym in Clarke Quay works because of proximity. The three things that kill workout consistency for CBD professionals are: inconvenient location, awkward timing, and not enough time.

We're designed to remove all three:

•      Three minutes from Clarke Quay MRT — easy before or after work

•      Morning classes from 7.30am on Mondays and Fridays, from 9.30am on weekends

•      Evening classes running until 9pm on weekdays

•      60-minute sessions — in, trained, out

•      Shower facilities — go straight to the office or dinner after

This is a gym that fits around the CBD schedule rather than asking you to rearrange your life around it.

What We Teach

Sweat Science is a technique-first boxing gym. That means every session is structured around actually learning how to box — stance, footwork, punching mechanics, defensive movement — not just burning calories.

Classes are led by Coach Hafiz, who holds three Singapore National Boxing Championships, the Hong Kong City Cup, and two Pesta Penang titles. He's been coaching for over a decade.

The result is that members don't just get fitter. They develop a real skill. After two or three months of consistent training, you're boxing — not just doing boxing-themed cardio.

Who Trains Here

A mix. Lawyers, bankers, designers, teachers, mums, university students. Ages from early 20s to mid-50s. About half the room is women. About half are beginners when they start.

The common thread isn't fitness background or experience — it's that they wanted something real. A workout with purpose, led by someone who actually knows what they're talking about, in a space that doesn't feel like a factory gym.

'I tried the big chain gyms. I tried HIIT classes. Nothing stuck. I've been at Sweat Science for eight months and I haven't missed a week.' — A Clarke Quay member
